Tapper is the name of the TAP® Pest Control Insulation mascot—the anteater. He is a trademarked part of our logo and may not be combined, altered, or changed in any way without the express consent of Pest Control Insulation, LLC.
The logo should always have ample breathing room. Maintain a generous “safe” area equal to 75% of the height of the logo on the top, sides, and bottom. This frames the logo with visually equal padding.

1. Use of Implied Safety Claims
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is cracking down on the use of marketing claims for pesticides that “imply” that a particular pesticide is safe. With this in mind, the following words and phrases should be avoided when marketing and/or selling TAP® Pest Control Insulation:
- TAP® is safe for use
- TAP® is harmless
- TAP® is non-toxic
- TAP® is benign
- TAP® is non-poisonous
The appropriate language should state that, “TAP® is acceptable for use around humans and pets.” Information or discussion regarding the properties of boric acid itself (as opposed to the properties of TAP®) may be provided if desired.
2. Claims Regarding Types of Pests TAP® Controls
TAP® only controls the insects that are listed on the product label, and any marketing or sales claims cannot deviate from this list of insects:
- Darkling Beetles
- Sow Bugs
- Termites (including Formosan Termites)
3. Claims That TAP® “Repels Pests”
TAP® does not repel insects; it kills them. The active ingredient in TAP® is boric acid, which is not a repellent of insects. Studies have shown that pests are unable to detect the presence of boric acid and, therefore, pests cannot be repelled from a substance that they cannot detect. Boric acid’s effectiveness in killing self-grooming insects is in a large part due to the fact that they ingest the substance without knowing that they are ingesting it.
4. Personalized/Customized Product Naming Rights
Pest Management Professionals are welcome to create an original or proprietary name for their insulation program or service, but federal and state regulations prevent naming the insulation itself anything other than the registered product name: TAP® Pest Control Insulation. Because the EPA and the individual states require registration for pesticide products, PMPs must remain aware that marketing our product as any name other than TAP® may be considered the sale of an unregistered pesticide. The registered symbol (®) must be used the first time the word “TAP” appears within a print document or on a web page.
